On a beautiful evening, the second annual Out of the Sun Run was a success and we have so many people to thank.  Prior to the start of the event the Rochester Pipe and Drums entertained the participants with numerous selections and concluded their performance with Amazing Grace in memory of those who have been lost to melanoma.  Following their performance Gabrielle Hensrud sang the national anthem.  Upon commencement of the 10K, 5Kwalk and run the Rochester Pipe and Drums played again as participants began their respective event. 

After the run/walk participants and volunteers came to the school gym for the award ceremony and reception. During the awards ceremony Coolibar entertained us with a short fashion show of some of the sun protective clothing available for both children and adults.  Schering Plough (makers of Coppertone) also provided educational materials and participants were given the opportunity to be viewed through the DermaScan.   Enjoy the selection of pictures made available by Lifetime Photo Sports Photography, MN.

We realize that each participant is in attendance based on their personal motives; it is wonderful to be a constituent of such a special night.  We are inspired by so many, their personal stories and generosity.  We continue to list our many corporate and local sponsors on our website, without their support we could not continue to promote skin cancer awareness and prevention.  We also want to thank our many volunteers; their participation make this event possible.  Our plan is to continue this event on an annual basis in hopes to raise awareness and funds for melanoma research.  Over the past two years Rochester Area Foundation has served as our fiscal agent, we thank them for their support.  This year we are pleased to be able to donate $25,000 to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center for Melanoma Research.  Please mark your calendar for Friday May 16, 2008 and we hope to see you then!

A $25,000 check was presented for the 2nd Out of the Sun Run held on May 18, 2007, on behalf of all the sponsors and participants at the Mayo Clinic Department of Medicine Medical Grand Rounds.
